Meet the Samdin family. They live in Gaza, and every morning they wake up and do what families everywhere do: get the kids ready, make breakfast, check their phones, keep the household running.
Except nothing about it is ordinary.
Each mug in this collection follows one member of the family through a routine you'd recognise, lived the way Gaza lives it. The illustrations are hand-drawn in soft colored pencil and woven with Palestinian details: tatreez cross-stitch, kufiya, olive branches and Hebron ceramics.
Meet the family
Every Samdin is named for something they don't have.
- Salam, 8, peace. Her morning starts in a line for water.
- Saeed, 5, happy. Somehow, he still is.
- Mama Amal, hope. She makes something out of nothing, every day.
- Baba Amin, safe. He spends his days making sure the family is okay, and telling the world they are.
- Teta Hayat, 74, life. She still bakes bread every morning, the way her mother taught her.
- Basha, the street cat. He acts like he owns the place, and in a way, he does.
Their family name, Samdin (صامدين), means steadfast.
Everything they're named for was taken. Except their name.
Why we made this
The news shows Gaza in numbers. We wanted to show it in mornings: the small, stubborn, everyday acts of a family that keeps going. Each mug is a quiet conversation starter, a way to carry their story into your kitchen, your office, your classroom.
