Meet Saeed Samdin, Salam's little brother. He's 5, he lives in Gaza, and his name means happy.
Somehow, he still is.

His days look like this:

☐ fly a kite - not really, not anymore

He sweeps the sand out of the tent with a broom taller than he is. He learns his letters on a chalkboard in a tent classroom. He shrieks when the seawater hits his head at bath time. He always loses at hide and seek, because his feet stick out from behind the tent flap. And he has never once caught Basha, and he never will.

His paper kite hangs on the tent pole now. In August 2026, kite flying was banned in Gaza after Israel warned that kites crossing the line would be treated as an act of war. For the children of Gaza, kites were one of the last simple joys left.

He's five. He still finds a way to be five.

The Samdin Family Collection
Saeed is the fifth of the Samdin family. Each mug follows one family member through a daily routine you'd recognise, lived the way Gaza lives it. Every family member is named for something they don't have: peace, happiness, hope, safety, life. Their family name, Samdin (صامدين), means steadfast.

Everything they're named for was taken. Except their name.

The design
The mug is hand-illustrated in soft colored pencil and wraps all the way around. It's woven with Palestinian details: olive branches, tatreez cross-stitch stars, seashells from Gaza's shore, and Saeed's red, cream and green paper kite.
